Once you start collecting something, it’s hard to stop. And it doesn’t even matter what your motive is — entertainment, investment opportunity, historical significance.

Growing your collection depends on how well you can identify different ways of purchasing new, unique items you haven’t seen before.

Here’s our list of great places to look for buying more collectibles and expanding your collection:

Craigslist

Craigslist has a very robust For Sale community, specifically their Collectibles section. You should also browse other relevant sections in case the seller doesn’t consider their item a collectible. As always, be safe when conducting business on Craigslist.

eBay

eBay is one of the largest online marketplaces, and it also has a robust community buying and selling collectibles. We actually have a specific storefront for all of our collectible auctions here.

Local Meetup Group

Meetup.com is a website that helps bring together people with similar interests. If there’s a local meetup in your area related to your collectibles hobby, you’re in luck! Sometimes these groups will have buying-and-selling events. But even if they don’t, talking to other people with similar collectible interest is bound to lead you to an interested seller of a collectible you’re looking for.

Local Collectibles Store

This is an obvious one, but it’s very hit or miss. Sometimes the prices will be good, sometimes they won’t be. Sometimes the selection will be good, sometimes they won’t be. If your local store has any sort of newsletter or notification system, you should sign up and be on the look-out!

Local Pawn Shop

Pawn shops have a very hit-or-miss selection, but if they happen to have something you’re interested in, you could get it for a very good price! If you’re looking for something very specific and you have a good relationship with them, it may be a good idea to let them know what you’re looking for and leave your information for them to reach out to you if they happen to come across what you want.

Garage and Estate Sales

Garage and estate sales are where you can find the diamond in the rough. They are a numbers game though, so you will need to attend a lot to improve your chances of finding something that interests you at a good price. But when you do, you’re almost guaranteed to leave happy! Just be aware of the quality, since they may not have kept the items stored properly.
